Worship
The word worship is a shortened from of worthy-ship. True worship is a celebration of God's worthy qualities– His greatness, His mercy, His eternal power. It is giving adoration to God for who He is by word, thought or action. Does God Need Our Worship? C. S. Lewis observed that we often think that God seeks our worship as if He was an egomaniac who needs our praise. Does God need our praise? No. God is great and worthy whether or not we recognize it. Lewis contended that just as a beautiful sunset is still a precious sight even if everyone is too busy to notice, God is God no matter what our response. God’s motive for encouraging us to honor Him is love. Appreciating God for who He is, is a necessary step towards having a healthy perspective about life. We believe that worship frees us to see God, our world and ourselves more clearly. It enlarges our horizons, addresses our fears and refreshes our mind. David invites us to worship in his Psalm– Sing to the LORD a new song;
sing to the LORD, all the earth.
Sing to the LORD, praise His name;
proclaim His salvation day after day.
Declare His glory among the nations,
His marvelous deeds among all peoples.
For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise;
He is to be feared above all gods.
Splendor and majesty are before Him;
strength and glory are in his sanctuary.
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name.
(From Psalm 96:1-8)
